WHY DO NEWSPAPERS NEED TO HIRE SINCERE JOURNALISTS WHO ARE NOT CRACK OR COKE ADDICTS? (ALIAS: THE TRUTH ABOUT IITS.)
I don’t know when did the economic times start hiring crack addict monkeys to write editorials on technical institutes. I came across this article on economic times today: “All is not well with, wait let me snort this line of coke.”
Whatsoever, it’s never a good idea to hire any crack addict to write newspaper columns and the reasons are listed below:
1. The writer does not have a basic understanding of the principle behind the creation of IITs. IITs were not created to produce high earning professionals. So, talking about jobs as the only end goal is beyond ridiculous.
IITs were created to produce technocrats i.e. job creators in the technical field but not limited to the said field. IITs then went on to become a platform to produce individuals who can think farther than most of the population and thus provide with knowledge to help develop the society.
“Money was never the end goal, it was just an added advantage.”
2. Then crack addicts claiming to be journalists started publishing lengthy stories about IITians who got extremely rich. There are very few articles which portray the hardwork that goes behind getting rich or influential. The said articles have been published since decades which created an unnecessary greed which could have been easily avoided.
3. Thus started a rat race for IITs. IITs were never meant to be a gateway to become wealthy. IITs were supposed to be tough which is why they “had” an extremely difficult selection process. The entrance exam called IIT-JEE was supposed to test the intelligence, sturdiness and resilience of the candidates. The best of them got into IITs. The people who prepared sincerely for IIT JEE have been successful even if they didn’t get into IITs because they were willing to work hard. The current JEE Advanced is a mockery of the old entrance exam.
4. The high rate of suicides and dropouts is because most of the students getting into IITs don’t know what it is to become a student of science or IIT. They want money before they step inside the classrooms of IITs. Obviously they won’t survive the pressure because they never wanted to endure the pressure of hardwork.
I would finish this article with an incident I encountered last year over a phone call from a guy who had cracked IIT in a reserved category. The call went somewhat like this:
Me: Hello, who is this?
Boy with greed in his voice: I wanted to know which department to choose so that it gets me the highest paying job.
Me: I don’t talk to students who ask about money before the level of knowledge they are supposed to acquire.
Then I hung up my phone.
